Dr. Yaffa Eliach is a professor of History and Literature, Department of Judaic Studies, Brooklyn College and a pioneering scholar in Holocaust studies with areas of specialty in Eastern European History and Hasidism. She is the creator of the Tower of Life, described as the most moving exhibit at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. The founder of the first Center for Holocaust Studies Documentation and Research in the United States, her most recent book There Once Was a World: A Nine-Hundred Year Chronicle of the Shtetl of Eishyshok is described as a “monumental work of history” and is a National Book Award Finalist. Her earlier book Hasidic Tales of the Holocaust is an international classic.
