Dr. Mervin Verbit Brooklyn, New York
Professor of Sociology, Brooklyn College

Mervin F. Verbit is Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College at the City University of New York and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a doctorate from Columbia University. He is also the Director of the North American Jewish Data Bank at the CUNY Graduate School. Dr. Verbit, who specializes in the sociology of religion and in contemporary Jewry, has been visiting professor at several institutions, among them Bar Ilan University, Hebrew University, Tel Aviv University, and Yeshiva University. Dr. Verbit has served as president or chairman of several organizations linking academicians to the Jewish community and as an active leader in national Jewish affairs.
